Ioannis Srimuangboon
Technician
Like all good film makers, has been moonlighting
as a veterinary technician for the last 10 years and taking the
advice, "don't quit your day job" very seriously. But the good news
is, he loves his day job! Unable to stay out of school for any length
of time, he is pursuing a second degree in childhood development,
mostly to find out why he never grew up. Maybe that's why the pets
love him so much. Ioannis lives with his boyfriend and kids who
consist of two cats, Tigger and Clams Casino, and two Pomeranians,
Stewie and Rocco. When not at work, Ioannis loves traveling,
particularly to Europe and Asia.

Sheila Torres
Overnight Technician
Native to Puerto Rico, Sheila has always had a special kind of compassion and love for animals.
At the age of 4, Sheila's mother gave her her 1st patient (pet) to practice on, a chihuahua.
Sheila would care for her, play doctor using her mother's stethoscope, and make sure she didn't get into trouble.
As Sheila became older and noticed the homeless animals, she felt the need to feed every one of them,
but it was a big job for such a youngster. At 16 years old, Sheila volunteered at the local pet shop,
and loved every minute of it. Years later, while attending college, she was able to obtain a handler/kennel
position at a small veterinary hospital on the Upper East Side in Manhattan, later becoming an assistant
veterinary technician there. After 6 years, Sheila was seeking a bit more experience, training, and education.
In February 2007, Sheila came to City Veterinary Care which allowed her to expand her abilities even further.
She's learned so much from all the doctors and techs, which she's very grateful for. Currently an overnight technician,
Sheila loves the quality time with the patients, as well as some of the owners. "It's a fufilling, and passionate career," she says.

greeting our patients. She is currently working on her dual B.S. degree in Biology and Psychology at Brooklyn

Toby Kaplan
Toby is a 7 year-old male, mixed-breed dog. He was adopted by Dr. Kaplan from New York's largest animal shelter,
Animal Care and Control on 110th street in October of 2001. He loves to fetch, swim, eat and sleep. He can usually be
found at City Veterinary Care lounging on the waiting room couches or sleeping under the front desk. His favorite toys are
those that squeak. He doesn't plan to have a family of his own one day, because he is neutered. This doesn't sadden him
because he knows that this City is confronted with a massive pet overpopulation problem that claims 45,000 lives in the
boroughs' shelter system each year. He feels lucky to have gotten out of the shelter alive and he inspired his dad to start
The Toby Project.

 |
Griff Kaplan
Sweet Griff is a 2 year old male mixed-breed dog. He was adopted by Dr. Kaplan in February of 2006,
brought to him by a client of City Veterinary Care who was able to rescue him from a neglect situation.
When not being smothered by admirer's, he loves to play with any dog coming in to the office, encourage
Toby to play, eat, play more, scavenge, eat again, scavenge again and at some point sleep.

Alex Kaplan
Alex was the first cat that Dr. Kaplan spayed while he was in veterinary school as part
of his spay laboratory. Alex travelled with Dr. Kaplan to Wisconsin and Northern California
before coming to settle at City Vet Care. She spends most of her days sleeping in Room 3 on
her little bed behind the computer. At nearly 22 years old, who can blame her for sleeping all day?!

Poppy Schallenberg-Kaplan
Poppy is a 17 year-old female cat who came to live with us after the death of her father,
Mr. Schallenberg. She gets medicine every day for her constipation problem and when not
sleeping on one of the receptionist's chairs, she likes to eat, nuzzle in human hair and groom herself.
|
 |
 |
 |
 |
Cookie Kaplan
Cookie is our resident Siamese, and although quieter than most Siamese, sometimes he'll give you an earful.
Cookie became a CVC cat in 2005 because of his chronic constipation issues (like fellow resident Poppy).
When he isn't trolling the back for stray kibble, Cookie can be found sleeping amongst the towels and blankets
or in any other warm nook or cranny. Cookie occasionally pitches in and donates blood if we're in a pinch and
his younger resident-mate Monterey Jack isn't available.

 |
 |
 |
 |
Monterey Jack
Monterey Jack is the most recent addition to the CVC family. He was rescued from the
CACC in the fall of 2008 when he was urinary obstructed. The doctors at CVC managed his
urinary obstruction and luckily he hasn't had a problem since - his all canned food diet
helps! As a healthy, robust 3 year old, Jack has since become the official CVC blood donor.
He gives blood at most once every six weeks to patients that are in need of blood transfusions.
Jack is a good sport about donating blood, so we look the other way when he chases the older
cats around the hospital.
